Nick Lachey is a singer songwriter who made his name with the vocal group 98 Degrees. He was married to fellow musician Jessica Simpson, with whom he made the reality television hit Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. He has since appeared in several other television shows and is in the process of building a career as a movie actor.

Nicholas Scott Lachey was born on November 9th, 1973, in Harlan, Kentucky. His half brother Drew Lachey went on to perform with him in 98 Degrees. He also has a step-sister, Josie; a half-brother, Isaac; two adopted brothers, Zac and Timothy; and two adopted sisters, Kaitlin and Sally. As a child he enjoyed singing and acting, so he enrolled at the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati (where actress Carmen Electra was also a student). However, after just one year he missed his family so much that he moved back to Ohio, where they had settled, to study Sports Medicine at Miami University. The following summer his high school friend Jeff Timmons telephoned him from Los Angeles to ask if he wanted to join a band, and Lachey suggested that they also involve his brother Drew and friend Justin Jeffre: thus the band 98 Degrees was formed.

Although the music scene was crowded with boy bands in the late 'nineties, 98 Degrees' distinctive style made them stand out, and their single Invisible Man was a huge hit. They enjoyed some success with their self-titled first album, but it was their second, 98 Degrees and Rising, which really made them into stars, achieving platinum status. They followed it up with three more successes: This Christmas, Revelation and The 98 Degrees Collection, before announcing in 2002 that they were to split to pursue solo projects. Unfortunately, Lachey's first solo album, SoulO, was a critical and commercial failure.

Later in 2002, Lachey married singer Jessica Simpson, whom he had met while touring. Together they appeared on the reality TV show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which was a huge success and ran for four seasons. They made several other television specials as a couple, including The Nick and Jessica Variety Hour. In 2005 they divorced, citing irreconcilable differences, and sold their mansion to Malcolm in the Middle star Justin Berfield. Lachey says that he still loves Simpson and always will, but he has since been romantically linked to several women, including former Miss Kentucky Elizabeth Arnold; fellow reality TV celebrity Kristin Cavallari; Kim Kardashian, the daughter of OJ Simpson attorney Robert Kardashian; and Miss Teen USA Vanessa Minnillo, who was formerly one of Simpson's closest friends.

Following his divorce, Lachey set about relaunching his musical career with a second solo album, What's Left of Me, which went on to attain gold status. He appeared in numerous TV shows, including Charmed and Hope and Faith, and launched a film career, appearing in The Hard Easy (with Bruce Dern and Peter Weller) and Bewitched (with Nicole Kidman, Will Ferrell and Michael Caine). He has recently completed filming on a TV movie, She Said/He Said, and is in the process of trying to negotiate his own TV show with either ABC or FOX. Meanwhile, it has been announced that 98 Degrees are planning to re-form and release another album.
