Noah Wyle Noah Wyle is a multiple Emmy winning actor best known for his role as Doctor Carter in E.R. He has also enjoyed an extensive film career. Noah Strausser Speer Wyle was born on June the 4th, 1971, in Hollywood, California . His father, Stephen, was an electrical engineer and his mother, Marjorie, an orthopaedic nurse. Noah has five siblings and his godmother is the actress Kathryn Grody. Growing up surrounded by film industry work, he became interested in acting while attending Thacher High School and was encouraged by his stepfather, the film restorationist, James C Katz. At the age of fourteen he played truant from school to try and get a part in Milos Forman's Valmont, but was unsuccessful. He became involved with Northwestern University 's theater program and discovered that actors get to "kiss pretty girls and smoke cigarettes," and he believed he had found his dream career. Later graduation, Wyle studied under acclaimed acting tutor Larry Moss, working as a busboy to pay his fees. After a series of minor uncredited appearances in television shows, he got his first break playing a disaffected son in the film Crooked Hearts, starring alongside Vincent D’Onofrio, Juliette Lewis, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. This was followed by roles in Rob Reiner's A Few Good Men, with Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, and Kevin Bacon; and Swing Kids, with Christian Bale and Robert Sean Leonard. But Wyle then had to struggle through a year of unemployment before winning the part of Lancelot in the TV movie Guinevere, opposite Sheryl Lee.
Alongside his film career, Wyle performed in several plays in Los Angeles . He would go on to become a volunteer producer for the Blank Theatre Company, which has featured stars such as Ed Asner, Warren Davis, and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Wary of the long term contracts associated with television work, Wyle steered clear of the small screen during the early years of his career but found himself unable to resist when he got the opportunity to addition for the part of Doctor Carter in E.R. This proved a wise decision, as his twelve years of work on the show made him a favorite with fans and gave him major celebrity status, as well as providing the opportunity for him to learn from established stars like George Clooney and Julianna Margulies. The show's intermittent filming schedule still left him time for film work, and he took the opportunity to appear in movies such as Stephen Frears' Fail Safe, with Richard Dreyfuss, and Brian Dennehy; Donnie Darko, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Patrick Swayze; and Scenes of the Crime, with Jeff Bridges and Mädchen Amick. He eventually left E.R. because he wanted more time to spend with his growing family. Wyle married make-up artist Tracy Warbin in 2000, having met her when they worked together on The Myth of Fingerprints. They have two children, Owen and Auden, and live in Los Angeles , where Wyle relaxes by playing pool and basketball.
