Pamela Sue Martin From Connecticut to New York to the glitzy world of Hollywood and finally Idaho, this has been the path of the career of the girl who began modeling at seventeen and ended up as ‘daddy’s little girl in her role as the daughter of Blake Carrington, played by John Forsythe in ‘Dynasty’. Pamela Sue Martin was born in Westport, Connecticut on January 5th 1953 to Thomas and Margaret Martin. She attended public school until she graduated from Staples High School in 1971. While at school Pamela Sue worked for a while at a hamburger stand earning a small amount of money until a friend informed her that she was earning $60.00 an hour modeling in New York. With a spirited nature Pamela Sue decided to follow her friend and was soon pursing a modeling career earning a good wage as a teenage model for television commercials. After starting a successful modeling career at just seventeen, Pamela Sue dropped out of school for a year and with no formal dramatic training she auditioned for a part in ‘To Find a Man’ and after three months of deliberating Columbia Pictures selected her and she made her debut role in “To Find A Man” in which she starred with Tom Bosley, Lloyd Bridges and American born British actress, Susan Tully.
Just two years later at the age of nineteen Pamela Sue landed the role of Susan Shelby opposite Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine and Shelley Winters in the 1972 version of the doomed ship in ‘The Poseidon Adventure.’ 1978 saw Pamela Sue filling the shoes of Nancy Drew in the ‘Nancy Drew Mysteries’ which was also seeing the start of Kim Cattrall's acting career and the more experienced Ray Milland. It was while Pamela Sue was starring as Nancy that she posed for the cover of Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Magazine in July 1978. The early eighties saw Pamela Sue leaving behind her teen idol status when she next starred as the sultry temptress Fallon Carrington on the TV Series “Dynasty”. Pamela portrayed the headstrong daughter of oil magnate Blake Carrington, played by John Forsythe, for four seasons. The series co-starred Linda Evans as Pamela Sue’s stepmother and Joan Collins as her mother. The series was produced by Aaron Spelling and became a world wide mega-hit and was the definitive television experience for the decade. Pamela Sue was very popular in her role as the vixenish spoiled child, Fallon, but decided to leave the series after four seasons in order to pursue "other projects." Her role was taken over by British actress Emma Samms. Unfortunately most of the "other projects" that Pamela Sue entered into consisted of low budget films that were overlooked by the critics. She made a few guest appearances on television
Pamela Sue’s post ‘Dynasty’ career offered her numerous top-rated television movies and mini-series including “Bay Coven” with Woody Harrelson and “Strong Medicine” with Patrick Duffy and Dick Van Dyke. Pamela Sue was married twice and has one son. Martin and her son now live in Idaho, after abandoning the glitzy life that Hollywood had offered her for three decades and supports environmental causes and spends her time playing polo and running her own theatre company.
