Parker Posey

Often referred to as the “Queen of the Indies”, this American actress has appeared in over thirty independent motion pictures. In recent years, however, Parker Posie has also appeared in several big budget hits, as well as a Pepsi commercial with a popular Saturday Night Live personality.  

Born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 8, 1968, Parker spent her childhood living in Mississipi and Louisiana. After graduating from high school, she attended the State University of New York at Purchase, where she shared a room with actress Sherry Stringfield.

After winning her first role as Tess Shelby on the daytime drama As the World Turns, she appeared in the 1993 cult classic Dazed and Confused, starring Matthew McConaughey and Ben Affleck.

Two years later, she had her first starring role in Party Girl. The remainder of the decade saw her starring in dozens of indie flicks including Personal Velocity, Clockwatchers, and The House of Yes, earning her the title of Queen.

A supporting role in the 1998 flick You’ve Got Mail, starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, signaled Posey’s transition from independent to mainstream film. Her big budget projects have included those in Scream 3, with Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette; Laws of Attraction, with Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore; and Blade: Trinity, starring Wesley Snipes and Kris Kristofferson.  Her most recent film appearance is in the Christopher Guest directed For Your Consideration, whose cast includes Eugene Levy, Ricky Gervais and Catherine O Hara.

Aside from film, Parker has also participated in several television projects. These included appearing on Will & Grace, alongside Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally as Jack’s boss, and also appearing as a fellow judge of Nina Garcia and Heidi Klum on Project Runway. She has also done voice work for the animated comedy series The Simpsons and Futurama.

Parker has also dabbled in the music industry. A competent mandolin player, her stylings can be heard on The Dandy Warhols single “I Am Sound,” and her vocal talents can be heard on several of Ryan Adams’s records. Adams was Posey’s boyfriend until their breakup in 2005. Proving she is a woman of many talents, she also appeared in a Pepsi commercial dancing alongside Jimmy Fallon in 2006. Parker is also a contributing editor to the literary magazine Open City.

In the past, Parker has counted author and editor Thomas Beller and actor Stuart Townsend among her love interests.
