Patrick Duffy Primarily remembered as the handsome, younger brother of Larry Hagman’s character J R Ewing in the hit series Dallas, Patrick Duffy has also appeared in many other successful television series and made for TV films during his three decades of acting. Patrick Duffy was born on March 17th 1949 in Townsend, Montana, the youngest and only son, of two children. He wanted to become a professional athlete, however while attending Cascade High School in Everett, Washington, his involvement in his high school's drama department led him to apply to the Professional Actors Training Program at the University of Washington, Seattle. Patrick supported himself during his down times as an actor by working as a carpenter and delivery man. His first big break came when he landed the role of Mark Harris in Man From Atlantis in 1976, a web-toed superhero, thwarting the forces of evil in which he starred for two years along with actress Belinda Montgomery and Victor Buono. Two years later Patrick was to land the biggest role of his career as Bobby Ewing in the long running hit TV series Dallas which starred, Larry Hagman, Victoria Principle, Barbara Belle Geddes, Charlene Tilton and Ted Shackleton. He played this role until 1991 and during that time he also made time to appear in a variety of other TV specials such as Vamping with his co-star David Booze, Daddy, Murder C.O.D. and Children of the Bride.
After Dallas finished its run in 1991, Duffy switched to another popular television role, as the head of the Lambert family in Step by Step where his on screen wife was played by Suzanne Somers. He played this role until the show's cancellation in 1998. During that time, he also starred in the Dallas reunion movies "JR Returns" and "War of the Ewings." Patrick’s parents, Terrence and Marie ran a bar in Montana. Patrick’s father was an alcoholic who never managed to overcome the disease before the couple were murdered in a robbery by two drug raged homeless men in 1986. Patrick now lives with his wife, Carlyn Rosser, ten years his senior, and their two sons, Padraic and Conor on their new ranch in Oregon. It was Carlyn who introduced him to Buddhism, a religion shared by many other stars such as David Bowie, Penelope Cruz, Boy George and Orlando Bloom. The couple were happy to raise their own sons in the faith. Patrick cites his religion and the teachings of the Dalai Lama as the calming influence that helped him when his parents were murdered. As a Buddhist Patrick belongs to the Nichiren Sect, Japanese Pure Land, and recites om mani padme at least once a day. Recently Patrick has starred in television movies Falling in Love With the Girl Next Door also starring Shelley Long and Desolation Canyon with Stacey Keach. In 2006, Duffy began a limited run on the daytime soap The Bold and the Beautiful and the Hallmark Channel miniseries Broken Trail.
