Paul Rudd
Actor Paul Rudd was born on April 6, 1969 in Passaic, New Jersey. When Paul was growing up, his father worked for an airline and the family traveled extensively before eventually making a permanent home in Kansas City, Kansas. After graduating high school, Paul enrolled as a theater major at the University of Kansas. After graduation, Rudd went on to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts/West in Los Angeles. Paul eventually made his way to England to study acting even further, taking a theater workshop at Oxford University's British Drama Academy. Under the tutelage of producer and editor Michael Kahn, Paul was dedicated to the study of Shakespearean theater – he co-produced and starred in the Globe Theatre's Bloody Poetry, and also starred in the title role of a production of Hamlet directed by Ben Kingsley.
In 1992 Paul made his small-screen debut in the series Sisters, playing Ashley Judd's boyfriend, Kirbie Philby. Rudd left the show in 1995, the same year that he scored big at the box-office starring as Alicia Silverstone’s stepbrother-turned-love-interest in Clueless. Also that year, Paul played the lead role in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, but was reportedly disappointed when the film was poorly received by fans of the original Halloween movies.
In 1996 Paul starred in Overnight Delivery with Reese Witherspoon, a film that bypassed the theaters and went straight to video. That same year he also starred in William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, as well as Canadian independent film, The Size of Watermelons. In 1998, Rudd starred in The Object of My Affection alongside Jennifer Aniston, with whom he was romantically linked. In 1999, he had a starring role in 200 Cigarettes with Christina Ricci, Ben Affleck, and Martha Plimpton.
In 2003, Paul landed a recurring guest-starring role on popular 20-something series Friends as the contrastingly grounded boyfriend and later husband to the flighty Phoebe Bouffet. One year later, Rudd was cast in a supporting role in the Will Ferrell comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. In 2005, he stuck with the comedy formula and starred in The 40 Year Old Virgin with Steve Carrell. In 2006 Rudd starred in The OH in Ohio and I Could Never Be Your Woman.
Paul is a great admirer of fellow actors from the critically-acclaimed series Lost. As a self-described “mega-fan,” he volunteered to interview the show’s star actress Emilie de Ravin for a feature in Interview Magazine.
Rudd is considered to be a “Pledge” member of Hollywood’s “Frat Pack” – a group of comedic actors who have appeared in films together since the mid-90s. Before USA Today coined the term Frat Pack, Entertainment Weekly referred to them as the “Slacker Pack.” Other pledges include David Koechner, Seth Rogen, Justin Long, Jason Bateman, Andy Dick, and Jennifer Aniston. Entertainment Weekly has deemed the existing members of the Frat Pack to be Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Edward Norton, and Ryan Phillippe.
In 2003, Paul married film publicist Julie Yaeger, whom he had dated since 1995. |
