Pauly Shore Bio
Pauly Shore

Comedic actor Pauly Shore was born Paul Montgomery Shore on February 1, 1968 in Hollywood, California. Growing up in Tinsel Town, Shore was surrounded by a culture of comedy. His parents owned and founded the famed Los Angeles comedy club The Comedy Store, where Pauly first took his act to the stage when he was 19.

Early on in his career, Shore landed minor roles on the series 21 Jump Street which starred Johnny Depp, as well as the film 18 Again! (1988) starring George Burns. He also landed an appearance in For Keeps (1988) alongside 80s screen queen, Molly Ringwald. MTV producers liked what they saw and created Totally Pauly, a show that Shore hosted from 1989-1994. In 1992, Shore landed a role opposite Brendan Fraser in Encino Man and received a Golden Raspberry Award (Razzie) – his character was suspiciously similar to his real-life persona and did not seem to entail much acting. However, Encino Man became a surprise-hit at the box office, and led to other off-the-wall roles in films such as Son-In-Law (1993), In the Army Now (1994), Jury Duty (1995) and Bio-Dome (1996).

In 1994, Shore’s girlfriend, troubled porn star Shannon “Savannah” Wilsey, committed suicide after being injured in a car crash. Shore maintained a low-profile for the latter-half of the 90s, occasionally making appearances on television and in the comedy circuit. In 1997, he re-surfaced to build on his previous small-screen success with the series Pauly. The show’s first episode ratings were so low that Fox Network decided to cancel it the day after it premiered. That same year, Shore dated pop star Kylie Minogue; however the pair split due to long-distance restraints.

In 2000, Pauly received another Razzie award nomination – this time for Worst Actor of the Century which he lost to Sylvester Stallone. However, the honor was restored when Shore won the Razzie for Worst New Star of the Decade. Also in 2000, Shore starred in the mockumentary The Bogus Witch Project, which spoofed the low-budget horror hit The Blair Witch Project (1999). The film featured combined sequences from other innumerable Blair Witch parodies, including The Linda Blair Project, The Blair Underwood Project, The Watts Bitch Project, and The Walt Witch Project.

Shore returned to the mockumentary genre in 2003 to make Pauly Shore is Dead, in which he fakes his own death in order to breathe new life into his career. The movie features a slew of A and B-list entertainers, including Paris Hilton, Charlie Sheen, Corey Feldman, and Todd Bridges.

In addition to film and television, Shore has also made several comedy albums – his first, The Future of America (1991) was named Best Comedy Album by the college of music journalists. His second album, Scraps from the Future, was nominated by the National Association of Record Merchandisers for a Best Sellers Award. Shore’s third album, Pink Diggly Diggly, was recorded live at his The Comedy Store, where Pauly first performed his stand-up routine.

In 2005, Shore ventured into the world of reality television with his TBS show, Minding the Store, which chronicles Pauly’s experiences taking over his parents’ LA comedy club.
