Peta Wilson Australian born beauty Peta Wilson began her career in the modeling industry but quickly moved to television and film. Most known for her lead role in La Femme Nikita, Wilson also gained recognition for her part in the adventure film The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Peta Gia Wilson was born November 18, 1970 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Her parents were Karlene White and Darcy Wilson. The daughter of a military man, Wilson moved a considerable amount, even living briefly in Papua New Guinea. By the time she was twelve, however, her parents had officially divorced. Excelling in several sports, Wilson’s mother sent her to deportment classes in order to avoid becoming a tomboy. While there, her good looks gained the notice of a modeling scout. She began taking jobs, which eventually necessitated living in Europe. But Wilson knew modeling was just a stopgap before acting. By 1991, she moved to Los Angeles and began studying the craft of acting under Arthur Mendoza. Starting to earn small roles, she made her onscreen debut in 1995 with The Sadness of Sex. For the next two years, she took a variety of roles in mostly low budget productions such as 1996’s Loser with Brian Keith Allen. She also appeared in television episodes of Strangers and Highlander opposite Adrian Paul.
Wilson eventually landed an important audition for the USA Network in 1996. Beating out 200 other applicants, the audition won her the lead in a new television series entitled La Femme Nikita. Beginning in 1997, the show ran successfully until 2001. Wilson led the cast next to Eugene Robert Glazer, Roy Dupuis, Matthew Ferguson, and Alberta Watson. Capitalizing on her newfound face recognition, Wilson began landing increasingly commercial roles. This culminated in 2003 when she took a supporting role in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. She appeared with Sean Connery, Tony Curran, Stuart Townsend, Shane West, Jason Flemyng, and Richard Roxburgh. Next, she landed a two-episode stint on Johnny Zero before taking another commercial role with Superman Returns. The 2006 film starred Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth, Kevin Spacey, Parker Posey, and James Marsden. Most recently, she was in the Damian Harris film Gardens of the Night with leads Gillian Jacobs, Evan Ross, Ryan Simpkins, Tom Arnold, John Malkovich, and Kevin Zegers. Outside of acting, Wilson gained recognition for her 2004 appearance in Playboy.
In her personal life, Wilson has been romantically linked to Gardens of the Night director Harris. They were rumored to be together from 1990 to 2003. She was subsequently linked to fellow actor Dan Wyllie as well as Aaron Jeffery. In February of 2002, Wilson and Harris welcomed a child into the world, a baby boy named Marlowe. |
