Peter Friedman
Peter Friedman is an actor who has enjoyed constant work on stage, television, and film. Peter was born in 1949 and hails from New York City. His Broadway performance in the musical Ragtime brought him a Tony Award nomination in 1998. A few years later, Peter played the part of Juror Number 10 in a Broadway production of Twelve Angry Men. This juror was previously played by Ed Begley in the famous 1957 movie.
Television work has always been varied for Peter Friedman, and he presented different characters in several episodes of The Muppet Show in 1976 and 1978. He had previously featured in a TV Movie directed by Kirk Browning. This comedy drama was called The Rules of the Game and starred David Dukes and Charles Kimbrough. In 1984 Friedman took a part in a biographical television play called Piaf. Jane Lapotaire played the iconic singer, Edith Piaf. Written by Pam Gems, it also starred David Leary and Jean Smart as Marlene Dietrich.
The cult hit TV show of the 1980s was Miami Vice starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. Peter Friedman appeared in an episode in 1985. Other appearances in successful shows followed into the next decade. Peter was in an episode of Law & Order in 1994 and in 2002. The series starred Sam Waterston, Benjamin Bratt, and George Dzundza. Peter was also in NYPD Blue, the detective series starring Dennis Franz.
Peter Friedman had his first feature film released in 1980. Director Lewis Jackson gave him a small part in You Better Watch Out. Brandon Maggart and Jeffrey DeMunn starred. Friedman’s first really big movie didn’t arrive until Single White Female in 1992. Directed by Barbet Schroeder, this was a tense thriller starring Bridget Fonda, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Steven Weber. Other notable performances followed, including a role in I Shot Andy Warhol. It was directed by Mary Harron and Jared Harris played Warhol. Lili Taylor and Martha Plimpton also starred. Paycheck is a science fiction thriller based on the short story by acclaimed writer Philip K.Dick. Directed by John Woo, it starred Ben Affleck, Aaron Eckhart, and Uma Thurman alongside Friedman.
Peter Friedman continues to be in demand for movie projects. Spinning into Butter has been given a 2006 release date. A drama about racial tension, it’s directed by Mark Brokaw and stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Miranda Richardson, and Beau Bridges.
The Savages is Peter’s latest film, due to be released in 2007. It’s a comedy drama directed and written by Tamara Jenkins and features Peter in the leading role. Gbenga Akinnagbe and Cara Seymour also star. Peter is married to actress Joan Allen, currently separated, with whom he has a daughter.
