Philip Michael Thomas
In the course of his career, Philip Thomas has dabbled in many aspects of the entertainment industry. Best known for his starring role on a hit series, he has also appeared in movies, released two music albums, and was a spokesperson for a psychic network.
Philip Michael Thomas was born on May 26th, 1949 in Columbus Ohio. His first appearance on the big screen was in the 1972 flick Come Back Charleston Blue. After appearing in several other relatively unnoticed films including Stigma, The Mushroom Eater, and Mr. Ricco, Thomas gained some recognition for his role in the 1976 film Sparkle, which also starred Irena Cara. He would land his signature role several years later on the hit television show Miami Vice. From 1984 to 1989 Thomas played the leading role of Ricardo Tubbs, an ex-cop seeking revenge against his brother’s murderer. The role made Thomas a star, and is still the one for which he is best known. During his Miami Vice days, Philip also had a brief, though not highly successful, music career. He released Living the Book of My Life in 1985 and the follow up, Somebody, in 1988. Unfortunately, neither album sold particularly well or produced any hits. Thomas never made a third attempt.
After Miami Vice ended in the late 80s, Thomas had small parts on several television series such as Zorro and SuperBoy, but never found another signature role. He briefly became the spokesperson for the Psychic Reader’s Network, now known as Traffix, Inc. in 1994, but was later replaced by Miss Cleo. Almost a decade after his last appearance as Tubbs on Vice, he and Miami co-star Don Johnson were reunited on Nash Bridges. This time appearing as Cedrick Hawks, a Drug Enforcement Administration agent from Miami, Thomas appeared in the episodes Wild Card and Out of Miami, which aired in 2001. His latest film appearance was in Fate, released in 2003. Presently, he has no upcoming films in the works.
During the course of his numerous relationships, Thomas had twelve children with numerous women, five of which are daughters. His relationship with Dhaima Matthews, which lasted from 1982 to 1986, resulted in two children. His ex-wife, Kassandra Green had five children for Thomas. After their divorce in 1998, she accused him of assault, but the charge was denied by the actor. Actress Sheila DeWindt, who appeared in The A Team and Days of Our Lives among many others, gave Thomas two more daughters. He has also been romantically linked to Dionne Warwick, but their relationship did not result in any children. Although Thomas had three other children, the identities of the mothers are not publicly known. |
