Pink Biography Self-respecting songstress Pink was born Alecia Moore on September 8, 1979, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. There are many different variations of stories claiming to explain how the name Pink originated; however, Pink has clarified that it comes from a character named Mr. Pink in the 1992 film Reservoir Dogs. A self-professed tomboy, Pink became a regular performer in the Philadelphia club circuit at just thirteen years old, beginning as a dancer and then as a vocalist for the hip-hop group Schools of Thought. As a teenager, Pink was the product of a broken home and often experimented with drugs. She found her catharsis writing poetry and songs. At age fourteen, a local club DJ offered Pink a regular gig at the club, performing a new song each week to the audience. It was there that she was discovered by a record executive and invited to audition for an R&B group called Basic Instinct. The group quickly disbanded, and Pink then joined R&B trio Choice, signed to Babyface's LaFace Records. Although that group also parted ways, producer Daryl Simmons was impressed with Pink’s talents, and she was signed on to LaFace as a solo artist.
In 2000, Pink released her debut solo album, Can't Take Me Home. The album went double-platinum and boasted three Top Ten singles: “There U Go,” “Most Girls,” and “You Make Me Sick.” Despite her lack of pretense and pop-packaging, Pink was grouped among teen queens such as Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson. In 2001, Pink recorded the remake of Patti Labelle’s 1975 hit Lady Marmalade with Christina Aguilera, Mya, and Lil' Kim for the 2001 Moulin Rouge! soundtrack. That same year, Pink released her sophomore album, M!ssundaztood. With catchy hooks and clever lyrics, the album went multi-platinum and included the top ten single, “Get the Party Started.” In 2003, Pink followed-up with the album Try This. The album included the hit single “Trouble,” which earned Pink a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. In 2006, Pink married motocross racer Carey Hart, whom she met at the 2001 X Games in Las Vegas. Pink proposed to Carey at a motocross track before first obtaining his father’s blessings. Although the couple is rumored to be currently expecting their first child, Pink has noted that this is not a new rumor by joking in an interview, “I have been pregnant for four years. And I have my assistant looking into contacting the Guinness Book of World Records, because that's pretty awesome.” Pink has previously been romantically linked to Motley Crue drummer, Tommy Lee.
In April 2006, Pink expressed her tongue-in-cheek attitude toward the music industry in her most recent album, I'm Not Dead. The video for the album’s hit single “Stupid Girls,” which won Best Pop Video at MTV’s 2006 VMA's, satirized the antics of many of young Hollywood’s female celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson, and Mary-Kate Olsen. Pink spoke further about the video’s message during a guest appearance on the Oprah show, professing, “sexy and smart are not oil and water... you don't have to dumb yourself down to be cute.” Pink is also an active and vocal spokesperson for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and has contributed to the protest against KFC’s failure to maintain minimal humane conditions for its chickens prior to slaughter.
