Rebecca Gayheart
Rebecca Gayheart was born on August 12, 1971 in Hazard, Kentucky. She grew up as a coal miner’s daughter in nearby Pinetop, Kentucky. She is of Irish, Italian, German, and Cherokee descent. Rebecca attended Knott County Central High School located in Hindman, Kentucky. There she was crowned Miss Centralian in 1987.
At the age of 15, Rebecca moved to New York City to pursue her career as a model and actress. There she attended New York’s Professional Children’s School and also the Lee Strasberg Institute which other successful actors like Angelina Jolie has attended. Gayheart’s first break into the business was starring in a series of television commercials in the early 1990’s for Noxema skin care.
Her first role in television was as part of the cast of the soap opera, Loving in 1992. By 1995 she had also landed a recurring role on the popular series, Beverly Hills, 90210. Other members of the cast included Jason Priestley, Luke Perry, Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Greene, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, and Hilary Swank.
Other TV shows that Rebecca has been a part of include Earth 2 (1994), Wasteland (1999), and Dead Like Me (2003), starring Ellen Muth. Gayheart has also had a recurring role on the show, Nip/Tuck (2004) starring Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon. Her most recent role is the character of Judy Nash on the series, Vanished, which premiered in August of 2006.
Rebecca has also had roles in several films, the majority of them being horror films or comedies. Her first movie was Somebody is Waiting (1996). This was followed by two films in 1997, Nothing to Lose, and Scream 2 starring Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Jamie Kennedy, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jerry O’Connell, Jada Pinkett Smith, Laurie Metcalf, and Portia de Rossi.
She has also starred in Urban Legend (1998), co-starring Jared Leto, Jawbreaker (1999) co-starring Rose McGowan and Julie Benz, From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter (2000), produced by Quentin Tarantino, and Harvard Man (2001), co-starring Adrian Grenier, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Joey Lauren Adams.
In 2001 Gayheart hit a nine-year-old boy in her car who was chasing a soccer ball across the street in Los Angeles. The traffic in front of her had come to a stop, but Gayheart moved into a left turn lane to pass them where she struck him. The boy died at the hospital due to his injuries. Rebecca reportedly had nightmares related to the accident for months afterward.
Gayheart then pleaded no contest to involuntary vehicular manslaughter, which is a misdemeanor. She was sentenced to three years of probation, a $2,800 fine, 1 year suspension of her driver’s license, and 750 hours of community service.
Later that same year, Gayheart was in another traffic accident where she flipped her rental car into two parked cars while driving in Los Angeles. Her father said that the accident was caused due to the stress from her first accident. He has banned his daughter from driving. Her mom has volunteered to be her chauffeur.
Throughout the trial Rebecca was engaged to the director, Brett Ratner. The couple split up before they married. Rebecca then married actor Eric Dane in 2004. In 2005, she landed a starring role in the Broadway play Steel Magnolias. |
