Rihanna Biography Rihanna Kenny, who professionally goes by simply Rihanna, is the individualistic, uniquely striking young R&B singer from the Barbados, who recently burst on to charts there with her single “Oh Baby”. Though frequently done, Rihanna is not to be confused with Robyn Rhianna Fenty, better known as Rihanna, the reggae, dancehall R&B singer from that cut the hit single “Pon de Replay”. Rhianna Kenny was Leeds born and is building a music career tailored to her own individual ideals. Rihanna Kenny was born February 7, 1983 in Leeds, to multi-racial parents. She enjoyed displaying a talent for singing from a young age. Even in school, which she did well at despite the fact that other children gave her a hard time because of her heritage and big-haired appearance, Rihanna enjoyed singing. She hailed from a multi-talented family and at the age of 14, Rhianna began singing in a band ran by her older brother, Leigh Stephen Kenny. Performing with her brother, she started gaining attention from the stage. The music industry began to take notice of Rihanna, and in 2002, she released her first solo album titled Get On. It contained her first single, “Oh Baby”, which reached number 18 on the charts. Her second studio album, self titled Rihanna, was released in the in 2006. Rihanna has had three other singles released, including her remix of Stevie Wonder’s “I Love Every Little Thing About You” and “Word Love”, which she wrote together with brother Leigh. Though all three singles charted in the , none of them has charted as high as her first single.
Rihanna placed her solo career on the back burner for a while as she tried her hand, or rather her voice, as the lead singer for a little-known band called Love Blackout. It was doubtful that she would retain her self-proclaimed free spirit in her musical endeavors with her new venture, with three solo releases charting in the UK’s top 100, but no hits with Love Blackout. Not only is Rihanna enjoying a career in the music business but she also branched out into the world of modeling with frequent appearances in several UK men's magazines such as FHM. Infact so popular was Rihanna in 2007 that she graced the cover of the UK FHM magazine 2008. In February 2008 it was rumoured that Rihanna was dating singer Chris Brown but the singer herself denied the rumours until late February when the couple were photographed together in a number of situations. By May 2008 Rihanna had made her second Atlantic crosssing with her musical talents when she took pride of place in the UK Top Twenty charts with her number one hit single, Take a Bow. The following year didn’t get off to a good start for Rihanna when in late february 2009, she found herself the victim of domestic violence at the hands of her boyfriend, R&B singer Chris Brown. As the couple sat in Brown’s car, following a pre-Grammy award party, Brown became enraged at Rihanna questioning him about a text message he had received on his cell phone and began punching her face. Unable to release herself from her seat belt Rihanna took the full brunt of his fists which left her badly cut and bruised. Three weeks later Brown was arraigned, by which time Rihanna had recovered from her injuries and had also, against the wishes of Oprah Winfrey, returned to her attacker.
