Rob Schneider
Rob Schneider is a comedian favorite in Hollywood who has starred in numerous comedies including most recently, The Benchwarmers. Schneider also is a screenwriter and director, and frequently makes appearances in fellow comedian Adam Sandler’s films. He is easily remembered as the Cajun oddball from The Water Boy shouting “You can do it!” from the sidelines. As a comedian, actor, writer, and director, Rob Schneider certainly has done it.
Robert Michael Schneider was born on Halloween in 1963 in San Francisco, California. His father, Marvin, is a real estate broker and mother, Pilar, is a former school teacher. Rob grew up in Pacifica, California, a small town just south of San Francisco where he graduated from Terra Nova High School in 1981.
Rob worked comedy clubs around the San Francisco area opening for acts like Dana Carvey and Jerry Seinfeld. Rob’s first notable television appearance was on David Letterman in 1987. His career took off when Lorne Michaels, producer of Saturday Night Live caught Rob’s act on an HBO special featuring young comics in 1990. Michaels signed Schneider to SNL as a writer where he worked until 1994. Rob’s most recurring act on the show was that of “Rich” the office worker whose resident desk was located by the office’s copy machine.
During his SNL stint, Rob made appearances on the television sitcom Coach, starring Craig T. Nelson and Jerry Van Dyke, and had small movie rolls including Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. In 1996, Rob starred in his own series, Men Behaving Badly, which lasted two seasons.
Rob Schneider’s first starring role in a film came in 1999 with Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo. He has appeared in various roles and cameos in Adam Sandler movies including Little Nicky, Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds, Eight Crazy Nights, and Click. After Deuce Bigalow, Rob Schneider starred in The Animal, The Hot Chick, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, and The Benchwarmers, which also starred Jon Heder and David Spade.
Rob Schneider is currently not married, but he has one daughter, Elle Tanner Schneider, with former wife, Angela King. She appeared briefly in both The Benchwarmers and the original Deuce Bigalow film. Schneider’s mother has also appeared in some of his films. Rob’s most recent work includes directing the film Big Stan, which is currently in post-production and due out for theatrical release in 2007.
In addition to a successful comedic acting, writing, and directing career, Rob Schneider founded the “Rob Schneider Music Foundation,” which funds music education, including teachers’ salaries, in the elementary schools where Rob grew up. |
