Robert Patrick
Robert Patrick was born on November 5, 1958 in Marietta, Georgia. His parents are Robert and Nadine Patrick. Robert has four siblings: Richard, Cheri, Karen, and Lewis. His brother Richard Patrick is the former guitarist of the band Nine Inch Nails and is the current lead singer of the band Filter.
Robert moved around often growing up. At the age of 12, he and his family left Marietta and moved around to such places as Boston, Massachusetts, Kettering, Ohio, and Detroit, Michigan. Patrick attended Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio from 1979-1980, where he was on the football team and also participated in track and field.
In 1980, Patrick, who was working as a house painter/waiter at the time, was inspired to lose 60 pounds after reading Arnold: the Education of a Bodybuilder, a book about Arnold Schwarzenegger. He then decided to focus on acting.
In 1984 Patrick moved to Los Angeles to try to make it as an actor. He lived in the same apartment complex as other up and coming stars like Jim Carrey, Ernie Hudson, and Cynthia Ettinger.
His first job in Hollywood was in the Los Angeles production of the play Go in 1984. His first film was Warlords from Hell (1987). Throughout the first ten years of his career he found regular work as a ‘B’ rated movie actor regularly playing villains, but his pay was so poor that he had to moonlight as a bartender to pay the bills.
In 1990, Patrick married fellow actress Barbara Patrick. The two have co-starred together a few times in films and TV. Barbara was also the star of a low-budget horror thriller produced by Robert’s production company. The couple has two children together, Austin and Samuel.
Also in 1990, Patrick landed his first major big budget role in the film Die Hard 2: Die Harder, starring Bruce Willis. This was quickly followed up by a starring role in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) playing the villain opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. After Patrick learned he landed the role on T2, he began a strict exercise regimen that consisted of strength, endurance, and weapons training that lasted for three months prior to filming. He also began training with a martial arts coach.
Following these two big budget action flicks, Patrick was still unable to find regular work in ‘A’ list movies. Throughout the early 1990’s Patrick continued to star in ‘B’ movies, including Striptease (1996) starring Demi Moore.
Robert founded his own production company, 360 Entertainment, in 1996 and quickly produced a couple films that landed on the Sci-Fi Channel. Right around the year 2000, Patrick’s career as an actor and producer took off. In 2000, Patrick landed a role on the HBO series, The Sopranos. He then joined the cast of The X Files alongside Gillian Anderson. Throughout filming his television series, he also landed several big parts in major motion pictures such as All the Pretty Horses (2000) alongside Matt Damon, Spy Kids (2001) costarring Antonio Banderas and Kelly Preston, and Texas Rangers (2001).
Patrick’s career has shown no signs of slowing down at this point. He has been in the business now for 16 years and has starred in over 55 movies. Most recently he starred in Ladder 49 (2003) alongside John Travolta and Joaquin Phoenix, Walk the Line (2005) with Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix, and the TV miniseries Elvis (2005).
Robert is also a fan of motorcycles. Every year he commits himself to participating in the charity event, Love Ride, which is an annual motorbike race with the goal of raising money for various charities. |
