Ron Livingston Bio
Ron Livingston

There are some actors who you know are just one good role away from becoming a household name, and Ron Livingston is one of them. He’s given audiences several really great performances, but has yet to have the one that catapults him to fame.

Ron Livingston was born on June 5, 1968 in Cedar Rapids, Michigan. Although neither of his parents were in the acting profession, both he and his younger brother, John, both chose acting as a profession. Livingston studied Theatre and English Literature at Yale University where graduated in 1989.

He got his first film role with a small part in 1992’s Straight Talk with Dolly Parton. In 1994 he had a role in a short film Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade, the precursor to the feature film Sling Blade. It was in 1996’s Swingers, with Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn, that Livingston was first noticed. It wasn’t until he appeared in the cult classic Office Space (1999) that he really gained a huge fan base.

In Office Space he plays a guy who hates his job and conspires with fellow coworkers to rip off the company. In the movie, Livingston is the love interest of Jennifer Aniston. Although the movie didn’t make a significant splash on the big screen, it has become a favorite on DVD.

Livingston’s next big role came in 2001 with the critically acclaimed HBO mini series Band of Brothers. He was nominated for a Golden Globe award for his portrayal of US Army Capt. Lewis Nixon in WWII France. That same year Livingston also became engaged to actress Lisa Sheridan. The two have made two movies together, Pirates (2003) and McCartney’s Genes (2005). They have yet to actually tie the knot.

Other stand out roles for Livingston include Alan Lowe in the 2001-2002 season of The Practice and as Brittany Murphy’s love interest in Little Black Book (2004). One of his best known television appearances was as Sarah Jessica Parker’s boyfriend, Jack Berger, for 8 episodes of Sex in the City. Berger spoke the lines, “He’s just not that into you” to Cynthia Nixon’s character and the phrase caught on. The phrase inspired a book of the same title that became a New York Times Best Seller.

In addition to acting, Ron Livingston is a poker player who has played on World Poker Tour’s Hollywood Home Game 8. He came in second among the seven actors playing, and donated his winnings to the charity ACCION International.

Livingston’s next project is the television series Standoff, which is scheduled for the 2006-2007 television season. He plays a hostage negotiator who is attracted to his partner played by Rosemarie DeWitt.
