Ron Perlman
Ron Perlman acted in over 100 television shows and movies before he got his first leading role in a film, 2004’s Hellboy. The prolific actor is classically trained and has done work on the stage, on television, and in movies.
Ron Perlman was born on April 13, 1950 in New York City. He got his first television role in 1979 on the soap opera Ryan’s Hope and his first film role was in the French film Quest for Fire (1981). Although Perlman cannot speak French he learned his lines for the film and spoke them perfectly. He was nominated for a Genie Award (a Canadian film award) for his role.
In the 1980’s Perlman appeared in several television shows including The Fall Guy, Miami Vice, and Max Headroom. In 1987 he landed the lead in Beauty and the Beast opposite Linda Hamilton. He played Vincent, a man-beast who lived underneath the streets of New York City who falls in love with Hamilton’s character, a New York assistant DA. Ron Perlman was nominated for an Emmy for his role and in 1989 he won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of the Beast.
In 1981 Perlman married Opal Stone. They have two children, Blake Amanda and Brandon Avery. Ron and Opal have been married for 25 years, a very long time by Hollywood’s standards.
In the 1990’s Perlman took to starring in films (many of them independent) and occupied his spare time with voice over work. He had roles in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1993) with Elijah Wood, Police Academy: Mission to Moscow (1994), The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996) with Val Kilmer and Marlon Brando, Alien: Resurrection (1997), and Happy, Texas (1999).
Perlman has used his vocal talents in several animated television shows. He’s been the voice of the Hulk on The Fantastic Four, Clayface in the New Adventures of Batman, Slade in Teen Titans, and Vice Principal Lancer in Danny Phantom to name just a few.
Perlman volunteers work with The Young Storytellers Foundation, a Southern California program. The program reaches out to children in the poorest school districts and focuses on literacy and self-esteem.
While Ron Perlman may not be one of the most famous actors, he certainly is one of the most sought after. He currently has 13 projects in various stages of development, including the film In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale with Jason Statham and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.
