Ryan Reynolds
Ryan Reynolds is an actor primarily associated with comic roles. Born in Vancouver, Canada in 1976, he had a number of small movie parts at the start of his career. This led gradually to leading roles and a lot of interest from the media.
In 1996, Reynolds took a small role in the miniseries, In Cold Blood. Based on the infamous true story of a horrific murder, it starred Anthony Edwards and Eric Roberts as the killers. After appearing in a few episodes of the science fiction series, The Outer Limits, Reynolds made a comedy film called Dick. This featured Kirsten Dunst, Michelle Williams, Will Ferrell and Teri Garr.
The next project for Reynolds led to bigger parts at last. He had a significant success with a TV comic series, called Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place. It was about the antics of three buddies and ran from 1998-2001. Reynolds and his co-stars, Nathan Fillion and Traylor Howard gained a cult following from the show’s fans.
Reynolds is probably still best known for his involvement in the National Lampoon movie, Van Wilder. Playing the title role, he had fun in the college campus romp, along with co-stars Tara Reid and Tim Matheson. He followed this with an appearance on the hit comedy series, Scrubs. Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison and John C. McGinley play the regular hospital jesters.
More comedy followed in the movie, The In-Laws, starring Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks. Reynolds then supplied his voice for the animated TV series, Zeroman. Other characters were voiced by comic actor, Leslie Nielsen, Don Cherry and Doris Roberts. He then had a more dramatic role in Blade: Trinity, the third installment in the futuristic movie franchise. Wesley Snipes starred, alongside Kris Kristofferson, Jessica Biel and Parker Posey. Another drama followed, when Reynolds was cast as the lead in the remake of The Amityville Horror. The horror movie co-starred Melissa George, Jesse James and Chloe Moretz.
The future looks secure for the young actor, with interesting projects lined up, including a role in Smokin’ Aces which is scheduled for a 2007 release. It’s a comedy action film and Reynolds will appear with Ben Affleck.
Inevitably, there are a lot of reports on the romantic liaisons associated with Reynolds. He has dated actresses Rachael Leigh Cook and Kristen Johnston. He has also had an intermittent relationship with his fiancée, Canadian singer songwriter Alanis Morissette. But it was Scarlett Johansson who finally tamed the handsome Canadian when in May 2008 the two became engaged and in September of the same year they tied the knot at a secret ceremony just outside Vancouver. |
