Samantha Brown, born March 31, 1969 in Dallas, Texas , is and has been a popular hostess on several different televised travel programs on the Travel Channel, such as Passport to Europe, Great Hotels, and Girl Meets Hawaii, and on the CTV travel channel she hosted Great Vacation Homes. She quickly became known and beloved for her witty and slightly offbeat sense of humor.
Brown is also slated to film a new special, aboard the Freedom of the Seas cruise ship, as well as a brand new series on the Travel Channel, entitled Passport to Latin America.
The Travel Channel also features currently popular series such as Globe Trekker; Most Haunted; World Poker Tour; No Reservations, hosted by Anthony Bourdain; Joan Cusack’s Local Flavor, hosted by Joan Cusack; Drew Carey’s Sporting Adventures, hosted by Drew Carey; and John Ratzenberger’s Made in America, hosted by John Ratzenberger.
Brown, although born in Texas, grew up and was raised in Derry, New Hampshire. She took voice lessons for 12 years and studied musical theater at Syracuse University, a private research university in Syracuse, New York , which includes notable fellow entertainment alumni such as Dick Clark, Peter Falk, Jerry Stiller, Vanessa Williams, Grace Jones, Taye Diggs, and Tom Everett Scott, among others.
Before becoming known as the television travel host lady, or “travel goddess,” as she is known by some avid fans, Brown appeared in several commercials, acted as a spokesperson, was part of the comedy sketch group “Mouth,” and also appeared in numerous Broadway musical productions as both an actress and singer.
She got her big break after nailing her auditions for, and getting selected as, a travel hostess when the Travel Channel was looking for someone back in 1999 and 2000. As a travel hostess, Brown describes various possible vacation destinations, hotels, vacation home rentals, tourist attractions, and vacation activities across the and in Europe , among other locations. As part of her “duties” she gets to actually visit and tour the vacation destinations across the and Europe to get an “insider’s look” at what these locations have to offer. Not bad for a day job!
Brown became engaged to computer servers specialist Kevin James O’Leary in January 2006, and on October 28 that year, the two were wed in Cambridge, Maryland .
According to an interview on the Travel Channel’s website, Brown enjoys biking, photography, wine-tasting, the music of Barry Manilow, as well as Giuseppe Tornatore’s 1989 movie Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, starring Antonella Attili, Enzo Cannavale, Isa Danieli, Leo Gullotta, Marco Leonardi, and Pupella Maggio. |
