Sandra Bullock With roles in blockbuster Hollywood hits such as Speed and The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood under her belt, Sandra Bullock has become America's favorite girl next door. She worked hard to earn her status as a well-known leading lady, and continues to deliver convincing and touching performances that command a superstar salary. Sandra Annette Bullock was born in Arlington County, Virginia, on July 26, 1964, to John Bullock, a voice coach, and Helga Meyer, an opera singer. She often performed in children's choirs and studied ballet while growing up. After high school Bullock studied acting at East Carolina University, but dropped out before finishing her degree to move to New York and pursue her career, eventually leaving that city for California.
After several small parts in theater shows, Bullock landed a part in the NBC television show Working Girl, based on the movie of the same name starring Harrison Ford, Melanie Griffith, and Sigourney Weaver. Two years later, in 1992, Bullock starred in the movie Love Potion No. 9, where she met the actor she would be engaged to for the next three years, Tate Donovan. In 1993, Bullock landed the role of Lieutenant Lenina Huxley in Demolition Man, alongside Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. Her success in this film led to her starring role in the blockbuster hit Speed, opposite Keanu Reeves. Bullock was propelled into Hollywood stardom, with subsequent films that include While You Were Sleeping with Bill Pullman, Practical Magic with Nicole Kidman, and 28 Days with Viggo Mortensen.
Romantically, Bullock has been linked to football player Troy Aikman, guitarist Guy Forsythe, and actors Tate Donovan, Ryan Gosling, and Matthew McConaughey. On July 16, 2005, Bullock married the host of the television show Monster Garage, Jesse James. Bullock is also known for her sizable donations to the American Red Cross. On two separate occasions, she has made donations of one million dollars to aid victims of both the September 11th attacks in New York City, and the 2004 tsunami. She was in New York when the attacks of September 11, occurred, and she spent the rest of the day volunteering her time to help the victims. Not all of Sandra Bullock's film roles have been successes. Speed 2: Cruise Control was a box-office clunker, despite co-stars Jason Patric and Willem Dafoe. After several misses, Bullock once again hit it big with her role as Gracie Hart in 2000's Miss Congeniality, a film that gave her a chance to do physical comedy. This was followed by another hit, Murder by Numbers, co-starring Ben Chaplin. In 2002, Sandra Bullock played Sidda Walker in The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, alongside Ashley Judd and Ellen Burstyn. Sandra Bullock's upcoming films include Infamous, in which she plays author Harper Lee and shares the stage with Gwenyth Paltrow and Isabella Rossellini; and Premonition, a thriller due for release in 2007.
