Sarah Silverman Bio
Sarah Silverman

Innocent looking stand-up comedian Sarah Kate Silverman is known for her sometimes off-color humor on taboo topics such as racism, abortion, rape, death, and child abuse. She has even written an article for Penthouse Magazine, as well as porn reviews for the Jewish magazine, Heeb.

Born to Jewish-American parents Donald and Beth Ann Silverman in Bedford, New Hampshire on December 1, 1970, Sarah began acting when she was 12. In this first public performance Sarah played the title role of the Community Players of Concord production of Annie.

During her teens, Sarah began doing stand-up comedy. When she was 12 she sang a song she had written called Mammaries to the tune of Memories. As the title implies, the song was about breasts…specifically her breasts, or what she considered her lack of breasts.

After high school Sarah studied at New York University before dropping out after her freshman year to pursue her comedy career.

Within three years Sarah had her big career break. In 1993 she was hired as a writer and featured player on Saturday Night Live. Unfortunately only one of her sketches made it through dress rehearsal and none made it on air. After just one season she was fired…by fax.

In 1995 Sarah relocated to Los Angeles and was the featured performer on the HBO sketch comedy, Mr Show with Bob and David. She also made guest appearances on sitcoms like Seinfeld (1997) as Kramer’s girlfriend, and The Larry Sanders Show, where she had the recurring role of TV writer Wendy Traston.

Other television shows that Sarah landed guest roles on include Star Trek: Voyager, Greg the Bunny, and JAG.

Beginning in 1998 she had several small parts in big screen comedies like Bulworth with Warren Beatty and Halle Berry, Overnight Delivery with Reese Witherspoon, and There’s Something About Mary with Cameron Diaz.

She also appeared in Screwed with Norm MacDonald and Dave Chappelle, the crime drama The Way of the Gun as the Raving Bitch, the sci-fi comedy Evolution co-starring David Duchovny and Julianne Moore, and Heartbreakers with Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love. She also appeared in Rent.

In 2002 Sarah guest-starred in an episode of V.I.P., the action/comedy series starring Pamela Anderson. The same year she lent her voice as a prank caller named Hadassah Guberman in the animated series Saddle Rash.

Sarah’s next big project was her one-woman comedy act, Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic, as a feature film. It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2005 and was shown in eight theaters that November.

In early 2006 the movie opened in 57 theaters with $1.3 million sales. The same year she wrote Sarah Silverman Comedy Central Pilot, and the feature film School for Scoundrels with Jon Heder and Billy Bob Thornton. She also appeared at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards and made jokes about Paris Hilton being overweight.

Since 2002, Sarah has been in a relationship with the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jimmy Kimmel.

She does not drink, but claims to smoke marijuana at least four days out of each week. She has also been very open about her lifelong battle with clinical depression, and claims that she doesn’t want to get married until same-sex couples are able to.
