Seth Rogen Biography Canadian actor and writer Seth Rogen is currently one of the most in-demand comedic figures in Hollywood. He remains best known for his work in Knocked Up, Superbad, and Pineapple Express. Seth Rogen was born April 15, 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. His parents are Sandy Rogen and Mark Rogen, a social worker and assistant director to Workmen’s Circle respectively. Rogen describes his parents as “radical Jewish socialists.” Rogen obtained his education from Point Grey Secondary School as well as a Talmud Torah school. Getting his start in entertainment early, Rogen made his standup comedy debut at the age of thirteen. Three years later, he took second in the Vancouver Amateur Comedy Contest. Deciding to pursue his career in the United States, Rogen relocated to Los Angeles and began auditioning for roles.
By 1999, he had landed his debut role. Playing Ken Miller in the critically acclaimed television series Freaks and Geeks, Rogen shared the screen with Linda Cardellini, James Franco, John Francis Daley, and others. Unfortunately for everyone involved (including co-producer Judd Apatow), the show was axed by its network after eighteen episodes. The following year, he once again teamed up with Apatow to star in his new series Undeclared. This time around, the cast consisted of Jay Baruchel, Carla Gallo, Charlie Hunnam, and Monica Keena. Once again, despite positive feedback from audiences and critics, the show was cancelled after only one season. Finding work wherever possible, Rogen even appeared in a one-episode stint of the popular teen drama Dawson’s Creek. He claims to have never even watched the episode. Transitioning to film, Rogen could next be seen in the hugely successful comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. The film was a vehicle for Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, and Steve Carell. He won an even larger role in the 2005 hit The 40 Year Old Virgin with Carell, Rudd, Catherine Keener, and Romany Malco. Finding work in mainstream projects that didn’t involve Apatow, Rogen also had a supporting role in You, Me and Dupree opposite Kate Hudson, Owen Wilson, and Matt Dillon.
Right back to Apatow projects, Rogen received his greatest break with 2007’s Knocked Up. Cast in the starring role, he appeared with Katherine Heigl, Jonah Hill, Leslie Mann, and others. Riding high off the success of this project, Rogen’s next film was Superbad with Michael Cera. Most recently, he was reunited with his Freaks and Geeks costar Franco for the hit stoner comedy Pineapple Express. Keeping busy, Rogen has currently completed the comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Directed by Kevin Smith, Rogen and Elizabeth Banks play the title characters. Also known for his writing skills, Rogen has penned episodes of Undeclared and Da Ali G Show, for which he earned an Emmy nomination. He also wrote Superbad, Drillbit Taylor, and Pineapple Express. Rogen has been longtime writing partners with Evan Goldberg. |
