Stanley Tucci Bio
Stanley Tucci

Stanley Tucci is one of those actors that took the slow road to fame. Born on November 11, 1960, in Katonah, New York, Tucci graduated in 1982 from State University of New York in Purchase, New York, a place made famous by other graduates such as Wesley Snipes, Sherry Stringfield, and Parker Posey.

Tucci’s first movie was Prizzi’s Honor, and although he only had a minor role, he appeared with such Hollywood stars as Jackson Nicholson, Anjelica Huston, Kathleen Turner, and Robert Loggia. Tucci followed this with a few bit parts in television shows, then had yet another small part in Who’s That Girl, a star vehicle for Madonna. A reoccurring role on Miami Vice was next, appearing alongside Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. Another television reoccurring role followed, this time as Rick Pinzolo on Wiseguy, along with Ken Wahl.

Success started to find Tucci as he starred for the first time in a TV movie, Revealing Evidence: Stalking the Honolulu Strangler, as a detective looking for a murderer in Hawaii. It was back to minor roles after this, as he appeared in Quick Change, which starred Bill Murray, Geena Davis, and Randy Quaid. Tucci was also back to his reoccurring roles on television, as he appeared as Detective Frank Mirelli in Equal Justice.

The gangster film Billy Bathgate came along for Tucci, and he starred as Lucky Luciano along with Dustin Hoffman, Nicole Kidman, Bruce Willis, and Steve Buscemi. Going from one extreme to another, Tucci next appeared in the family film Beethoven, about a huge dog with a vindictive vet after him. The movie also starred Charles Grodin, Bonnie Hunt, and Dean Jones. Another big movie came Tucci’s way as he starred in Prelude to a Kiss with Alec Baldwin and Meg Ryan.

There was no going back to small parts for Tucci, with his next film being the film adaptation of John Grisham’s novel, The Pelican Brief, starring Julia Roberts, Denzel Washington, and Sam Shepard as well. It Could Happen To You, a movie about a man that shares his winning lottery ticket with a waitress, and eventually falls in love with her, starred Tucci alongside Nicolas Cage and Bridget Fonda. He starred with Cage again in the crime thriller Kiss of Death, as well as David Caruso, Samuel L. Jackson, and Helen Hunt.

Tucci helped direct and write the film Big Night that starred himself, Marc Anthony, and Tony Shalhoub. Many of Tucci’s family members also made appearances in the film. Tucci co-wrote the film with his cousin, Joseph Tropiano, and his mother wrote a cookbook that directly correlated to the film.

Oliver Platt and Tucci attempted to bring back slapstick comedy along the lines of Laurel and Hardy, with The Impostors. Tucci tried to do a classic once again, as he starred in the film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Playing the part of Puck, he starred with Kevin Kline and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Tucci starred in a couple of hugely successful films next, with the first being America‘s Sweethearts, about a messy Hollywood divorce. This had him starring along with such noted actors as Julia Roberts, Billy Crystal, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and John Cusack. A movie about a hit man’s family, Road to Perdition, followed, and had him starring with more noted actors such as Tom Hanks and Paul Newman.

In three of his latest movies, there seems to be some odd connection between Tucci and Stanley Kubrick. In the biopic The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, Tucci played Kubrick, who had directed Sellers in Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. The movie Robots starred Tucci and James Earl Jones, who made his debut in Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, and Tucci’s movie The Terminal was directed by Steven Spielberg, who took over the direction of Kubick’s last project, Artificial Intelligence: AI at the time of his death.
