Stephanie Zimbalist
Although she may be somewhat of a lesser-known actress, Stephanie Zimbalist has made a bit of a name for herself in the world of television as a successful T.V. actress.
However, the New Yorker may be more renowned as a member of the elite Zimbalist family. Stephanie was born on October 8, 1956 in New York to her parents Stephanie Spaulding Zimbalist and Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., an actor. Stephanie’s grandmother Alma Gluck was a soprano, and her grandfather (Efrem Zimbalist) was a teacher, composer and concert violinist. Marcia Davenport, her late aunt, was a historian as well as an author.
Although Stephanie was born in New York, she spent a significant portion of her formative years in Middleburg, Virginia, where she graduated from high school. Before her decision to pursue acting professionally, Stephanie attended Julliard for a time.
Stephanie’s acting debut was in the 1977 made-for-T.V. movie Yesterday’s Child as Ann Talbot, co-starring Shirley Jones, Ross Martin, Claude Akins and Geraldine Fitzgerald. Several of her other early work and appearances include Forever (1978) and The Triangle Factory Fire Scandal (1979). Zimbalist also appeared in The Best Place to Be (1979) alongside her father and Donna Reed, the famous Oscar-winning actress who passed away in 1986. Stephanie also lent her talents to The Awakening with legendary actor Charlton Heston in 1980, and The Golden Moment, an Olympic love story co-starring David Keith and Richard Lawson, also in 1980.
However, Stephanie is probably most known in T.V. for her role as Laura Holt, a detective on the mystery/romantic comedy T.V. series Remington Steele opposite Pierce Brosnan. The series lasted from 1982 to 1987.
After Steele, Stephanie appeared and starred in leading roles in various T.V. movies. In 1990 she played Caroline, the main character in Caroline?, which won an Emmy and included actors Pamela Reed, George Grizzard and others. She has also guest appeared in popular T.V. series such as Twice in a Lifetime, Nash Bridges, Touched By an Angel, Crossing Jordan and Judging Amy.
A voice animator as well as actress, Stephanie has utilized her talents for voice acting in Animated Stories from the Bible: Music Video, volume 1 and 2 (both in 1994), as well as in several Batman animations.
Stephanie has also been quite successful in the world of theater in various plays and musicals, most notably for My One and Only in opposite Tommy Tune, and in The Rainmaker (2001), for which she won a Robby Award for Best Actress in a Drama.
