Stephen Baldwin The youngest of the Baldwin brothers, Stephen Baldwin was born on May 12, 1966, in Massapequa, New York. Baldwin attended State University of New York at Binghamton, and also worked as a Calvin Klein model for a brief period of time. He was soon spotted by an agent while working at a pizza parlor, and his career in acting took off. Baldwin’s first film role came in the 1988 movie Homeboy, with Mickey Rourke and Christopher Walken. Guest-starring roles in television followed, until Baldwin landed a steady role on the series The Young Riders, also starring Josh Brolin, from 1989 through 1992. During this time, Baldwin married Kennya Deodato, whom he met on a New York subway.
By the mid-90s, Baldwin began landing leading roles in such films as The Usual Suspects (1995) with Kevin Spacey and Benicio Del Toro; Under the Hula Moon (1995); Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (1994) with Matthew Broderick, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Heather Graham; and A Simple Twist of Fate (1994) with Steve Martin, Catherine O'Hara, and Laura Linney. Against the advice of older brother Alec, Baldwin also appeared in the 1996 flick Bio-Dome in 1996 with Pauly Shore. The new millennium saw Baldwin appearing in a series of Indie films, such as In My Sleep in 2003 and Fly Boys in 2004, with Tom Sizemore. During this time, Baldwin also underwent a profound change in his personal life. Shortly after the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York City, Baldwin became a born-again Christian, and was baptized Roman Catholic. Since then, he has devoted a large part of his time to spreading the word of the ministry to youth. In 2004, he traveled as a speaker with Teen Mania Ministries, and he is also the producer of an extreme skateboarding Christian ministry called LIVINIT.
Baldwin’s charity endeavors include mobilizing the celebrity pool tournament, Pool Aid, of which proceeds go to support AIDS Project Los Angeles. When it comes to other celebrities and their philanthropic endeavors however, Baldwin has been somewhat critical. In his book, The Unusual Suspect: My Calling to the New Hardcore Movement of Faith, Baldwin addresses U2 lead singer, Bono, claiming: "You would do far more good if you just preached the gospel of Jesus rather than trying to get rid of Third World debt." Baldwin currently resides in the village of Nyack, New York with his wife, Kennya, and their two daughters, Alia who was born in 1993, and Hailey who was born in 1996. In addition to writing poetry and youth ministry, Baldwin enjoys auto racing, sky diving, bungee jumping, and is an honorary Team Suzuki bike racer. YUDDY |
