Steve Carell Bio
Steve Carell

Comedic actor Steve Carell’s Golden Globe-winning face has appeared on the cover of Life Magazine and is best known for his portrayal of Michael Scott on NBC’s comedy series The Office. With a celebrated comedy acting and writing career launched by improv skits and appearances on Saturday Night Live, Steve Carell is one of America’s funniest men.

Born as Steven Carello in Massachusetts on August 16, 1963, Steve Carell attended an all boys private school in Concord. He studied at Denison University in Ohio, and after graduating took up acting at Chicago’s Second City troupe. Carell’s film debut was in John Hughe’s 1991 film Curly Sue starring comic legend James Belushi, but his breakthrough film wouldn’t come for another decade.

During the 1990s Steve Carell taught improvisational comedy while performing with the Second City troupe in Chicago, was a writer for The Dana Carvey Show, and made appearances as a correspondent on The Daily Show with John Stewart.

Carell returned to the big screen with a bang in 2003 when he played Evan Baxter in the comedy Bruce Almighty starring Jim Carrey. Carell’s career gained momentum, and in 2005 he had a role in the film Bewitched starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell. In addition to his television role on The Office and his film credits, Carell also co-wrote the surprisingly successful 2005 summer box office hit The 40-Year Old Virgin. Taking the starring role, Carell and co-writer and director Judd Apatow’s hit movie was chosen as one of the Top Ten movies of 2006 by the American Film Institute.

Carell’s success continued as he won the 2006 Golden Globe for Best Actor in Television Comedy. Carell also supplied the voice of Hammy in Dreamwork’s 2005 computer animated feature-length film Over the Hedge. Carell returns to The Office for its second season this fall and will receive an order from Hollywood’s “God,” Morgan Freeman, when he returns as Evan Baxter in the almighty follow-up film, Evan Almighty, scheduled for release in 2007. He is also scheduled to begin work on Peter Hedges’s romantic comedy Dan in Real Life after Almighty.

Married since 1995 to actress and Office co-star Nancy Walls, whom he met while teaching improv classes at Second City, Steve Carell is father to two children. Walls and Carell reside with their children in Los Angeles, California. In addition to slated roles in numerous pre-production films, Carell is also rumored to have begun writing his own self-titled project.
