Sunny Mabrey American actress Sunny Mabrey is still a relatively new face on the entertainment scene. She has, however, landed notable roles in The New Guy, Species III, and Snakes on a Plane. Sunny Mabrey was born November 28, 1975 in Gadsden, Alabama. She pursued her secondary education at the University of Alabama, where she appeared in several theater productions. She also helped launch her acting career with a series of television commercials. By 1998, she made her onscreen debut with LateLine, appearing with Al Franken, Miguel Ferrer, and Ajay Naidu. Her next gig came in 2002 with a one-episode appearance on the popular fantasy drama Angel opposite cast regulars David Boreanaz, Charisma Carpenter, and Alexis Denisof. In the same year, she pushed her career even further by making her film debut with The New Guy. She played a supporting role alongside leads DJ Qualls, Eliza Dushku, and Zooey Deschanel. Other brief roles were won by Lyle Lovett, Eddie Griffin, Tony Hawk, and Gene Simmons.
In the less commercial arena, Mabrey also landed a gig in the independent production A Midsummer Night’s Rave, which was loosely based on the William Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Jumping back to television, she was back to a more mainstream audience when she guest starred on CSI: Miami in 2003 with David Caruso, Emily Procter, and Sofia Milos. She finally gained her first substantial film role in 2004 with Species III. Although the film was generally panned as a tired addition to the franchise, it did provide a good springboard for Mabrey’s subsequent career. She capitalized on that exposure to land another guest spot on the medical drama House with Hugh Laurie, Lisa Edelstein, and Omar Epps as well as xXx: State of the Union with leads Ice Cube, Samuel L Jackson, Willem Dafoe, and Scott Speedman. Others may recognize her as the fresh young face in One Last Thing…, a film which centers on a young man and how he copes with being diagnosed as terminally ill. It received generally positive reviews and contained a strong supporting cast including Cynthia Nixon, Michael Angarano, and Gina Gershon.
Mabrey’s next role was in the highly advertised and internet hyped Snakes on a Plane with Julianna Margulies, and her most recent outing was the action thriller Final Approach with Dean Cain, Anthony Michael Hall, Lea Thompson, William Forsythe, and Tracey Gold. She recently completed filming a comedy entitled Repo, which was written by and stars newcomer Ben Gourley. Outside the realm of film, some may recognize her for appearing in the music video “Amazed” by Lonestar and “Nookie” by Limp Bizkit. She also caught the public’s eye when she appeared in a national ad for Gap during their khaki campaign. In her personal life, she was engaged to fellow actor Clayne Crawford in 2002. She wed Ethan Embry in 2005, but they have since divorced. She currently lives in Los Angeles, California. |
