Tara Reid Tara Reid was born November 8, 1975 in Wyckoff, New Jersey. Both her parents were teachers, but apparently Reid didn’t exactly aspire to that profession. In fact, she wasted no time at all getting herself in front of the camera and on screen. At the young age of six, Reid landed her first acting role. It was 1982, and she appeared on the very short-lived game show Child’s Play, after which she appeared in several commercials for the likes of McDonald’s, Jell-O, and Crayola. Growing up in New York City, Reid attended the Professional Children’s School. Her classmates included Jerry O Connell, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Macaulay Culkin. After making several one-episode appearances in shows such as Saved by the Bell: The New Class and California Dreams, Reid won a role in the Coen Brothers cult-classic The Big Lebowski. She is still known by many fans of the film simply as Bunny Lebowski. Also in 1998, appealing to the more mainstream crowd, Reid appeared in the slasher-thriller Urban Legends. But it wasn’t until 1999 that Reid truly became a household name. For one, she had a small role in Cruel Intentions (a modern day version of Dangerous Liaisons). But more notably, she had a starring role in the teen sex comedy American Pie. Opposite Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Alyson Hannigan, Seann William Scott and Mena Suvari, this wildly successful film made stars out of its entire teen cast—including Reid.
Josie and the Pussycats, which proved to be a disaster at the box-office. However, on the set Reid did meet then-MTV host Carson Daly. The two started dating and eventually became engaged. However, the engagement was subsequently broken off in 2001. The stress of the situation coupled with many other external factors led to a brief bout of anorexia. Reid eventually overcame the disease, but many of her scenes in the American Pie sequel reveal her looking particularly gaunt. American Pie 2 (2001) was another huge success, one that Reid used to help secure the female lead in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder. The film starred the recently emerged comedian Ryan Reynolds, and despite being pure mindless fun, was another success for Reid. Reid continued to work during this time, but the majority of her publicity was no longer for her film work. Instead of shots of her at film premieres, photos detailed her extensive party habits.
In Touch as “Top Party Animal.” In 2004, at Puff Daddy’s 34th birthday party, Reid suffered an embarrassing moment when unbeknownst to her, part of her dress shifted, fully revealing her breast. The mishap was highly photographed and publicized. This was in part because obvious scar tissue could be seen, confirming rumors that Reid had breast augmentation surgery, which she later publicly confirmed. After a brief period of stagnation, Reid’s career seems to be back on track. She secured a recurring role on the NBC comedy Scrubs, and she is currently in post-production for the films If I Had Known I was a Genius and 7-10 Split. Reid has never been married, but she was engaged to Daly for over a year. In 2004 she dated Baltimore Ravens quarterback Kyle Boller. |
