Tim Daly Bio
Tim Daly

Actor and producer Tim Daly is most known for his work as a film and television actor, Broadway actor, and voice actor.

He was born on March 1, 1956 in New York City to actor James Daly. Actress Tyne Daly is Tim’s older sister by 10 years, who played Mary Beth Lacey on the hit T.V. series Cagney and Lacey (from 1982 to 1988). A Daly family rumor that circulated around for quite some time was that Tim Daly’s grandfather was Earl Warren, former Chief Justice of the United States and California’s Governor, but Tim has repeatedly denied the rumor.

Tim Daly attended Bennington College in Vermont, studying theater and literature and doing some acting. His first major film was Barry Levinson’s Diner, in 1982, which featured many now big-name actors such as Steve Guttenberg, Mickey Rourke, Kevin Bacon and Paul Reiser. His follow-up films included Just the Way You Are (1984) starring Kristy McNichol; Adam Rudolph’s Made in Heaven (1987); and Spellbinder in 1988.

Despite the successful credits attributed to his film career, Daly was considered more successful in television acting. Tim’s work includes television series and made-for-T.V. movies such as Mirrors (1985) and Almost Grown (1987). Daly also became renowned for his leading role as a pilot on Wings, the popular NBC sitcom (1990 to 1997), which also co-starred Steven Weber and Crystal Bernard. Tim Daly also starred in the T.V. drama The Fugitive which only lasted one season from 2000 to 2001, and the crime series Eyes, cancelled after only five episodes despite the fact that it received great reviews. More recently, Tim Daly made guest appearances on The Sopranos.

As a voice actor, Tim Daly has also made his mark, most notably as the voice of Superman. He voiced Superman in Superman: The Animated Series (1996 to 2000, with Dana Delany and Clancy Brown). Daly also lent his talents to The Batman/Superman Movie (1998) with Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman, and the video game (2002) Superman: Shadow of Apokolips and the direct-to-video release Superman: Brainiac Attacks (2006).

Daly is also well-known in the wonderful world of Broadway. He has starred in Tina Howe’s Coastal Disturbances, Oliver, Oliver, Bill C. Davis’ Mass Appeal, William Inge’s Bus Stop, Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie, A Knife in the Heart and Paris Bound, among others. Most recently, Tim Daly appeared alongside David Schwimmer and Željko Ivanek in Broadway’s The Caine Munity Court-Martial.

Daly is married to actress Amy Van Nostrand, with whom he has two children, and together they won DramaLogue Awards for best actors in Vincent J. Cardinal’s The Colorado Catechism.
