In April 2006 Tony was to return to the White House for his second stint where he was named as White House Press Secretary for the George W Bush administration, replacing Scott McClellan. The position has historically been offered to the most experienced members of the news media. During his time with television and the press Snow was known to have made many disparaging comments related to Bush, but when Snow accepted the position, Bush acknowledged past remarks by stating he realized Snow was not a man who was afraid to express his own opinions. Being an integral part of policy debates in the administration was a requirement stipulated by Snow before accepting the position. Tony officially assumed the position in May 2006.
Less than one year as White House Press Secretary Tony once again revealed, in a television statement in March 2007, that he had again been diagnosed with an abdominal growth which he was having removed during a brief stay in hospital.
