Wayne Brady
Wayne Brady was born on June 2, 1972 in Orlando, Florida. He attended Dr. Phillips High School and graduated at the age of 16. He also sang in his high school’s chorus. His first job and gig in the entertainment industry was working for Walt Disney World playing Winnie the Pooh character, “Tigger.”
Interest in pursuing a career in comedy, Brady began performing at a comedy club in central Florida called SAK Comedy Club. In 1992 he was named SAK’s Rookie of the Year for Improvisation. Following Florida, Brady moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and finally settled in Los Angeles, California in 1996 to further his acting career.
After moving to Los Angeles, Brady met and married his wife Mandy Taketa. Their first child, Maile Masako Brady, was born on February 3, 2003.
Wayne began landing small roles in theatre and on television in the early 1990’s. His first notable break came on the 1998 ABC variety show, Whose Line is it Anyway, which was originally a British show. The American version featured Drew Carey, Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, and Colin Mochrie. The show allowed Brady to show off his talents in both acting and singing.
Whose Line is it Anyway proved to be a good starting point for Brady. After his success on the show, Brady came out with his own variety show on ABC in 2001. Unfortunately the show failed and was not picked up for another season. Brady then got his own daytime talk show in 2002 called, The Wayne Brady Show. Although the show lasted for only two seasons, it did earn him four daytime Emmy Awards, including two for Outstanding Talk Show Host.
Following his projects, Brady continued to make guest appearances on The Drew Carey Show. Then in 2004, Wayne earned a starring role in the Broadway play Chicago, playing the character of Billy Flynn.
Throughout 2004 and 2005 Brady continued to make a variety of guest appearances on several shows, including Chappelle’s Show, starring comedian Dave Chappelle. On the show, Wayne went against his normally squeaky clean image and spoofed himself as a street thug. Brady completed his debut music album in 2005 entitled Wayne. The CD was released in September of that year.
2006 will be a big year for Brady, with him starring in several films and TV shows including Crossover and The List. Brady will also lend his voice to several animated shows and films. |
