Whitney Port Biography American television personality Whitney Port gained notoriety when she emerged as a frequent subject of the MTV “documentary” series The Hills. Appearing from 2005 to the present, Port has even generated enough buzz to warrant rumors of her own television series.
Whitney Eve Port was born March 4, 1985 in Los Angeles, California. Raised here as well, Port has yet to live in any other city. Port obtained her initial education from Warner Avenue Elementary School. She followed with Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences. Pursuing her secondary education, Port enrolled in the University of Southern California. While there, she obtained her degree in gender studies. She also pledged the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Port was an unknown to the TV-viewing public until 2006 when she was first featured in The Hills. (Before this onscreen debut, Port worked several summers at Women’s Wear Daily as an intern.) The Hills is a spin-off of the previous documentary drama Laguna Beach. This time around, however, the story follows Lauren Conrad as she lives and works in Los Angeles.
Port earned a spot on the show as she was a fellow employee at Teen Vogue along with Conrad. She became increasingly featured in the series, however, as Conrad and Port became closer friends. To that end, she was featured onscreen with other regulars Kelly Cutrone, Heidi Montag, Brody Jenner, Audrina Patridge, Stephanie Pratt, and others. During the course of the show, Port is noted for taking the Paris job, which Conrad passed down at the conclusion The Hills’s first season. She also found herself the center of drama in season three when her long-term relationship ended, and her dating exploits were featured as part of the show. Desiring a change of pace, Port also left Teen Vogue in this season. She earned a position at The People’s Revolution in its stead. Shortly after, Conrad was offered a similar position with the company, which she accepted. Consequently, the two are once again working together. While many of her costars have been accused of exploiting the exposure they have garnered from the ostensibly real series, Port is very vocal about her desire to separate her professional life from her personal. Although she was offered the opportunity to move in with Conrad, Patridge, and others, she declined because she wanted that barrier between her private and public space. Outside of The Hills, Port has briefly dabbled in modeling. She walked the runway for DKNY Jeans. She also had an embarrassing moment when she tripped on the catwalk while wearing Hilary Swank’s Oscar dress.
There are currently unconfirmed rumors of a television show with Port as the focus. Olivia Palermo, a friend of Port, would be a likely candidate for a regular on the show. Representatives for the socialite, however, have denied these rumors. In her personal life, she was romantically linked to Matt Kaplan. Port’s hobbies range from fashion to volleyball to swimming. |
