With her mother, Naomi Judd, Wynonna became one-half of country singing sensation The Judds. Within six years of their debut in the mid-80s, The Judds sold over 20 million records worldwide and garnered sixty industry awards – including nine Country Music Association Awards, five Grammys, and eight Billboard Music Awards. As country music legends, the Judds have been named two of the 40 Greatest Women of Country Music by CMT, and still retain a solid fan base despite parting professionally in the early 90s.
In 1992, Wynonna released her first solo album, Wynonna, which went on to become the highest-selling debut album by a female artist at the time. She continued to release albums to success for the remainder of the decade, culminating in New Day Dawning in 2000, her fifth solo record, which she also produced.
Wynonna remained in the public eye during the new millennium, performing for her friend, Sting at the 2004 MusiCares Person of the Year Gala and also appearing on the Oprah Winfrey Show that same year. Also in 2004, Wynonna performed at the White House and the Pentagon.
Like Kirstie Alley, Wynonna has made repeat appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss the progress of her issues with food and weight-loss battle. She has also sought treatment for addictions at the Shades of Hope rehab center in Buffalo Gap, Texas.
On the small screen, Wynonna has hosted the fourth season of the most watched country music program in the United States, Nashville Star. She has also appeared on ABC sitcom, Hope and Faith, starring Kelly Ripa and Faith Ford.
In addition to singing and acting, Wynonna is also a published author. She has penned her life story in the New York Times Best Selling autobiography, Her Story: Scenes from a Lifetime.
Wynonna has been the recipient of such prestigious awards as the Country Music Association’s Connie B. Gay Award; as well as the USO's Merit Award for service to all divisions of the United States Armed Forces. She also received a nomination in 2003 for the Academy of Country Music's Home Depot Humanitarian of the Year Award.
The year 2005 was a busy one for Wynonna, marking her appearance on the covers of Ladies Home Journal and Good Housekeeping; and opening the new Wynn Resort and Casino in New York alongside BB King. Also in 2005 Wynonna the song recorded Heart of America for Habitat for Humanity, which raised over $90 million dollars for Gulf Coast natural disaster relief.
Wynonna is a active member of the Recording Artists' Coalition, as well as a United States Ambassador for YouthAIDS.
