Zac Hanson Biography Zac Hanson is one third of the pop band Hanson, alongside his brothers Taylor Hanson and Isaac Hanson. Zac, born in 1985, is the youngest brother from a family that lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The boys started to sing acapella style at a young age, and then took up musical instruments. Zac played the drums, Taylor played keyboards, and Isaac was on guitar. Their first professional gig was at an arts festival in their hometown in 1992. Eventually Zac Hanson and his brothers secured a recording contract and their first commercially released album came out in 1997. Called Middle of Nowhere, it featured the track MMMBop. This became their first single and it smashed to number one in the American and the British charts. It is still the song that identifies the group the most. Hanson made a guest appearance in the music video for Yo Kidz The Vidz by Carman. Their second single also reached number one and they embarked on an American concert tour. The boys then put out a live album. The band was in a slump after this, with their second album selling poorly. Their record label dropped them after rejecting many of their songs so Zac Hanson and the others decided to launch their very own independent label. This was a wise decision, as their first album release on the label was a big hit. The only other artists to have such success on an independent label are Prince and Ani DiFranco. The first single from the album, Penny & Me, reached number two on the Billboard charts. Chris Applebaum directed the video for it, and Samaire Armstrong of The OC, appeared in it. The video for the second single was directed by P.R.Brown.
Zac Hanson and his siblings were back. The band went on a big tour in 2005, going to Europe, South America, and Australia. They are currently working on their fourth studio album, which is expected to come out in 2007. Hanson are truly part of pop culture, and have received their fair share of criticism. They have been parodied for their blonde looks and teenybopper music. In an episode of the animated show, Family Guy, the character of Peter Griffin as voiced by Seth MacFarlane shoots the band when they turn up in his street. The boys are all grown up now, having survived in the manic world of pop, and their boyish features have matured. Zac married his girlfriend in 2006. |
