Zsa Zsa Gabor Bio

Zsa Zsa Gábor Biography

Cop-slapping actress Zsa Zsa Gábor was born Sári Gábor on February 6, 1917, in Budapest, Hungary. Gabor grew up in Switzerland with her parents and two sisters, Magda and Eva. She studied at the Vienna Music Academy, and landed her first stage role in the opera The Singing Dream.

Gabor has been married nine times: to press director, writer, and diplomat, Burhan Belge from 1937 to 1941; to Conrad Hilton, hotel magnate and great-grandfather to socialites, Paris Hilton and Nicky Hilton, from 1942 to 1946; to actor George Sanders from 1949 to 1954; to financial consultant Herbert Hutner from 1964 to 1966; to oil heir and businessman Joshua S. Cosden Jr., from 1966 to 1967; to investor Jack Ryan from 1975 to 1976; to Michael O'Hara from 1977 to 1982; and finally, to Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt from 1986 to the present. Gabor has one child, daughter, Francesca Hilton with Conrad Hilton, born in 1947.

Gabor’s first film role came in 1952, when she starred in Lovely to Look at with Red Skelton. Also that year, she appeared in the comedy We're Not Married! with Ginger Rogers and in Moulin Rouge, which was directed by John Huston. Gabor continued her reign as a glamorous film star throughout the 50s and 60s, although the quality of the films she starred in varied. She was also in competition at this time with her sister Eva Gabor for film roles, and the two were often embroiled in highly-publicized family feuds.

In 1989, Gabor played the real-life role of an indignant diva when she slapped a Beverly Hills police officer in the face after he stopped her for a traffic violation. Found guilty on assault charges, Gabor was sentenced to three days in jail. Gabor testified that the officer had shouted a slew of obscenities at her, and later complained that the jury selected at her trial were not her "class of people", beacuse,"there was not a producer, a press agent, a director, or an actor." Two years later, Gabor poked fun at the incident when she played herself in the film Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear, starring Leslie Nielsen, OJ Simpson and Priscilla Presley. Gabor would go on to milk the incident through similar parody appearances on the 1993 film, The Beverly Hillbillies, starring Lily Tomlin; the 1996 film, A Very Brady Sequel, starring Shelley Long; and the 90s sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, starring Will Smith.

Gabor has faced various health problems in the new millennium, including a 2002 car accident, in which the car she was driving in hit a light pole in West Hollywood. It was later falsely reported that the star was in a coma following the accident. In 2005, Gabor suffered a major stroke which left her in critical condition and put her in hospital. After undergoing surgery to remove a blockage in her carotid artery, Gabor returned home, where she is recovering under the care of husband, Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt. Also in 2005, Gabor filed a suit against her daughter, Francesca, for larceny and fraud.

In 2007, Gabor’s husband of twenty-one years, Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, announced to the press that he may be the father of the late Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter, Danni Lynn Hope.
